Something Old, Something New

What have we done to our vintage wedding dresses??!!

Some of you will know that I used to have a studio shop in Greater Manchester. I had acquired quite a few couture vintage wedding which were beautifully made but...let's face it, some of them were not to everyone's taste.

Since closing the shop and moving to Wales I've sold some of the dresses online but the less popular of them have been languishing in storage in my home. I couldn't bear the thought of them ending up in landfill so I decided to take my scissors to them and rework the vintage dress to bring them up to date!

I've absolutely loved the challenge of making something new out of something old and unwanted. And I've also been using of all of the leftover fabric and trimmings by turning them into bags and accessories.

Check out the results below and let me know what you think.

The Feather Dress

Before.....

This dress was missing some of it's feathers at the front and I thought that the length was a bit dated. So I carefully redistributed some of the feathers to even them out, and chopped the bottom of the dress off to make it a more modern knee length dress.

Here are the results...

The Purple Drop Waist Dress

Before....

This dress was made from beautiful dupion silk and hand beaded but the style was very dated. I took the bottom section and made this into a skirt and then decided to go short with the top section to make this two piece.

This is my favourite transformation so far. I love how it turned out!

The Blue Cross Over Top & Tuille Dress

Before...

This was another inticately made vintage wedding dress which I felt was a little dated. So I created another two piece by taking away all of the blue outer silk to create a simple strapless cropped top and then creating a tuille skirt....

I haven't decided whether this one is finished yet or whether I need to add a little of the blue silk back to the top...
